Kingston Firm Turns 50...

Gordon’s Celebrates Milestone with a Makeover KINGSTON, ON – May 15, 2007 – In an era when businesses are lucky to survive for five years, a venerated Kingston business is celebrating its 50th birthday.

Mayor Harvey Rosen and Chamber of Commerce President Mark Lewis took part in 50th birthday celebrations for Gordon’s Estate Services today.

The Gordon family business opened its doors in 1957 and quickly established itself as one of the area’s most successful auction houses. Since then, the Gordons have been quick to recognize changing trends and adapt to them. Twenty years ago, they noticed a growing interest in real estate auctions, so altered their focus and developed a reputation as one of Canada’s premier real estate auction companies.

In recent years, a new trend has attracted the family’s attention. As the Baby Boom generation ages, the Gordons have noticed a surge in the number of families who are downsizing their homes, settling estates or making other major life transitions involving the sale of real estate. In recognition of this surge, the Gordons have once again decided to adapt to meet the changing needs of their clients.

As part of their 50th birthday celebrations, the family has changed the business’s name to Gordon’s Estate Services and is introducing a new Integrated Real Estate & Transition Solutions service in which they not only sell homes for their clients, but also handle every detail of the move or estate settlement, all included in the real estate transaction.

“Our goal has always been to fill a void in the real estate marketplace for sellers with unique needs, and/or unique properties that require a different approach, and a broader scope of service,” says Alicia Gordon, Partner and Real Estate Sales Representative. “This new service transcends the traditional real estate process by including a host of services that people need when they’re downsizing or settling an estate.”

Gordon’s clients have unique circumstances. They are often downsizing or settling estates, often they are out-of-town executors. In each case, they face monumental tasks that go beyond selling real estate, and they’re overwhelmed. Gordon’s job is to sell their property through real estate auction or traditional MLS listing, plus manage all the details of their physical transition – cleaning, preparing the house for sale, packing, shipping, setting up their new home, appraising and managing the sale of extra assets, handling red-tape such as home inspections, zoning issues – anything clients require in order to move or settle their estate smoothly. Gordon says, “Our clients love our service because they get to stay in control of the process, and we handle all the work.”

“It’s exciting to see an established company changing with the times. Companies like Gordon’s are an excellent example of how to stay relevant and competitive in the marketplace,” said Kingston Mayor Harvey Rosen. The company’s name change will take effect immediately.
